A Digitalized, Cumulative Risk Management Approach to Maintenance Backlog Prioritization on High-Hazard Installations
Melios addresses the challenges of maintenance backlog management, particularly for Safety and Environmental Critical Equipment (SECE). We have developed a dynamic and automated approach that prioritizes equipment in backlog by evaluating their cumulative risk impact, thereby minimizing human errors, and optimizing available manhours.
Abstract
When an item of equipment on a plant is due for maintenance or if there is a fault, a work order is created either for preventive or corrective action. The work order contains the maintenance activities to be carried out and includes a completion date. If the work is not done before the set completion date the equipment goes into maintenance backlog. Operating equipment in backlog, especially for a prolonged period, could compromise an installation's safety and integrity.
Our research's impact is particularly significant after the COVID-19 pandemic, which exacerbated maintenance backlogs due to reduced offshore personnel and increased operational demands. Manual prioritization methods are labour-intensive and prone to inconsistencies, often relying heavily on personnel judgment. Our innovative methodology leverages data automation to streamline the prioritization process, ensuring that critical maintenance tasks are addressed promptly and effectively. This not only enhances the safety and integrity of installations but also demonstrates our expertise in providing practical, data-driven solutions to complex industry challenges
By implementing our advanced backlog prioritization methodology, companies can achieve superior efficiency and sustained risk reduction. Regular application of this technique allows for continuous monitoring of cumulative risk profiles, ensuring that maintenance efforts remain focused on the most critical equipment
Melios is dedicated to advancing safety protocols and operational efficiency in high-hazard installations and committed to enhancing risk management strategies in the oil and gas industry through cutting-edge research and innovative methodologies.
